Get Ready for the Future of DMV: Sedgwick County Prepares for Colorado DMV’s Major Tech Upgrade

The Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is launching a major digital makeover in February 2026, and we are excited about the benefits this will bring to you! The state is upgrading its entire system, including the public e-services platform, myDMV, to offer everyone a much simpler, faster, and more secure experience. The statewide transition will happen in February 2026.

This upgrade is set to revolutionize the way customers handle their driver and vehicle needs. Once the new system is fully implemented, Coloradans can expect a new option for a streamlined user experience complete with a secure, logged-in customer portal that offers a dashboard for managing vehicles, licenses, and personal information as well as correspondence with the DMV, with unprecedented ease.

"We are incredibly excited for our residents to experience the more modern, secure, and user-friendly system coming in February," said Colorado DMV Senior Director Electra Bustle. "This investment will translate directly into less time spent on transactions, both online and in our office, prioritizing your time and convenience."

To make this change, temporary but necessary closures will occur. All residents are strongly urged to complete any outstanding driver or vehicle transactions—like renewing vehicle registration or driver licenses—online now at mydmv.colorado.gov. After the evening of Friday, February 13th, online transactions will be unavailable until the system re-launches on Tuesday, February 17th.

  • The Sedgwick County Motor Vehicle Office and all state offices will be closed on Monday, February 16th for Presidents' Day.
  • The Sedgwick County Motor Vehicle Office will be opened on Tuesday, February 17th but be aware transactions will be processed slower or delayed as the staff gets comfortable with the new system.

We appreciate our community's patience during this short pause as we prepare to deliver a superior service for years to come.

You may renew your driver's license / vehicle registration, etc online at dmv.colorado.gov.  We also have a drop box located in Courthouse parking lot where you can drop off any type of payment.  We are also offering to do renewals over the phone.
If you have any questions please all 970-474-3346.
